How to use Liquid Tallent and WTF GW Blog

Two posts in one today!

Agrax Earthshade (formerly Devlan Mud, aka Liquid Talent) is not the final step in painting. It is a shading step and the model still needs to be painted after that. The to the left picture demonstrates this.

One of these is painted.

I have a basic pattern of how I paint. I give a base layer, shade, touchup then highlight. You see how there are two steps after the shading/washing step. That's the painting part. Slopping on a basecoat then dipping a mini really takes no talent, skill, time or energy. It is not painting. It is cheating.

Now, I don't have a real problem with this. Dipping minis is just like dipping tobacco. Dip if you want to, but don't expect me to like it or condone it. I won't acknowledge a dipped army ad "fully painted" because it is not painted. It is better than a grey or black army but not much.

The bottom Rhino was just washed with Dev Mud and nothing else. The one above has been touched up (intentionally sloppily), then highlighted and perhaps some lite drybrushing and it is a world of difference and took very little work and time.

What the crap is this. Now I have skipped most of the videos because I knew what was in them before even watching them. I clicked on this one because... Well I do not know why. Perhaps I hoped that the HMFIC of painting would have something awesome to say about his bright, new, shiny baby.

I could not have been more wrong.

This guy is obviously reading a script and a poorly-written one at that. It was obviously written by a PR guy for this poor nerd to contain as little useful information as possible. It is little better than an infomercial. He is so twitchy and pauses at weird times that it makes it hard to pay attention to what he is saying. Also, the deer-in-the-headlights eyes are super-disturbing.

Not alone in my dislike. Get a clue GW!

A while ago I was into this new paint thing, but all these "testimonials" have made me more and more skeptical. I keep feeling like they are pushing too hard and trying to sell me something that I do not need and do not particularly want.

You really only get that in the GW store from the Black Shirts. My FLGS does not push that on me. When I got into there, they might ask if I have heard about the new paints but wont be all pushy. If I asked to bust out a pot and try it, they are more likely to let me than the GW people. It is that kind of friendly and cordial atmosphere that people respond to and not these fake sale tactics.

I am running out of room (and patience) for these vidoes. Below are some hi(lo)lights.

As bad as Dave's video was at lease he said something useful unlike this weird looking cat. And thought he was obviously reading off a prompter and poorly hiding it, at least he is not completely full of shit like this guy. It used to take him 3, 4, 5 stages to base his minis. I call BS on that one. No one uses a 5 stage basing unless you could applying the glue as a stage. Also, painting on the texture paint, wash and a dry brush is three stages. By your own words you could do it in 3 stages before, so what's so flippin grrrrrrrrrrrreat about them? At least Dave looked me in the eyes when he lied to me unlike Ben Affleck.

These testimonials are far worse than I ever thought they could be. You have let me down GW. Big time.
