On the table now - Rhino and Draigo

I am a man of my word and am working on the Rhino that has spent the last 1.5 years gathering dust on my desk. I am using the one on the left as a reference point to get everything consistent. I've run out of black wash and the store is out of wash so that is slowing everything down.

Also, Draigo is there to serve as a distraction for when the Rhino becomes too tedious. He needs the black wash too.

Finished - 2x Necron Lords

"Two Necron Lords, both alike in ferocity, in fair 40k where we lay our scene. From ancient race spring new miniatures. Where xeno blood makes xeno hand unclean. From forth the deadly Spyders a swarm of thrice-damned scarabs take your life."

I finished these two guys a few days ago but am just now getting to post about it. The guy on the right is missing a staff but I'll fill in a staff of light or something else at a later date. Also his "res orb" is actually a skull bit. You can only tell if you look at it from the bottom and I like those hidden little extras.

The one on the left is the first finecast mini that I've been mostly happy with. the detail on it stood up well to the painting. This is especially noticeable on his chest glyph. The biggest complaint was his staff. It had this bend to it that I could not fix. I ended up cutting it and using a plastic GK halberd haft. It looks a little funny but it works.

Up next: One red Rhino!

How to win at cards, love and Bartertown

A better place to be from than go back to.

I love my FLGS and even the CLGS. I love my Local GW store and patronize Neil over at The War Store. In terms of swapping, trading and buying, nothing beats Bartertown. If you have the time, you can find just about anything for a song.Bored with your Space Wolves and want to try the new shiny of Grey Knights? Swap your army at Bartertown. Need that critical OOP bit? Find it at Bartertown. Want to buy some minis for 50% or more off retail? Bartertown!

I need this shirt so hard.
There are some hard and fast and unspoken rules about dealing over there. You are dealing with a strangely honorable segment of the wargaming community. Most folk do what they say and say what they do. A BTer lives and dies by his rep. Have too many sketchy trades and it is easy to get blacklisted.

There are a few common types of people that you will meet on BT. There is the person that is always looking to trade a big army for the new shiny. Weeks after an army comes out, this person is clamoring for the new shiny. then a few weeks after that, the person is looking to offload. You can use this person to pick up some awesome stuff for cheep.

On the Table Now - Necron Lords

The Lord on the right is finished but was painted quite a while ago.  The two on the left have all their base colors and have been washed in liquid talent. Unlike those that abuse washes in lieu of actual skill, there is still a lot of painting to do.

Finished - 2x GK Termies

I wonder why this picture turned out so funny.
Getting good at this! Everything from the On the Table now post on Feb 2nd is finished! The Monkey is done, but I have not taken any pictures of it just yet.

This also closes out the metal GKTs for a total of 2 swords, 3 halberds, 4 thunder hammers, 1 Sergeant, 1 Captain and Stern. Up next are the plastic Termies of which I need to make a standard bearer, apothecary and at least one with two swords. I also need another Sergeant. that leaves only one model unclaimed. Don't know what I am going to do with him.

I don't know that I am up for more GKTs just yet. I am going to finish the two Necron Lords that are on the table then perhaps finish some vehicles. 2012 is the year of the vehicle after all!

EDIT: I figured out why this picture turned out so orange and it was a lighting issue.

Further EDIT: While I do plan to get these three friggen Rhinos off my painting table and in the foam, there are still some other minis to paint. the plan is to take time off between each Rhino to paint an infantry model.

Finished - Vets with power weapons

The best conversions are the ones that look like no conversion at all. Ok so these are less of a conversion than a bits swap. Everyone has had either and arm or a weapon swapped out and are the better for it.

The guy on the far left has been sitting in my bits box for three years. I bought him while I was on a trip on a whim, then never painted him. I ended up swapping his sad old mace for a power maul from the plastic Dark angel box. It is a little long but looks much better.

The gentleman in he center had a chainsword but I replaced that with one of the hundreds of GK power weapons that are laying about.

Guy on the right is the MKII Vet power fist guy, but he jimmy-jacked a Space Wolf for his power sword and now has a shiny new trophy. the model looks great but all of these guys are pains in the butt to get into GW foam.

Ideas for "Fixing" Techmarines

Welcome to Jiffy Lube!
I just had a brilliant idea for a couple of changes to Techmarine that could give them a home in my army. I've written before about how Techmarines do not function as they are intended on the table and could use a revision. Looking at that through the lens of the Herohammer article I wrote about Mephestion and Chaplains, It made sense to make the Techmarine more like the Chaplain.

Stat Line
For the most part, I am ok with their stat line. They have a pretty much standard line for a Space Marine. Ld 8 is pretty crappy, but then again, they are not people persons. They do need two Wounds or a beefed up Toughness. In the Deathwatch RPG, Techmarines are tanks. They have higher armor and toughness than any of their other brethren. The 2+ armor save is cool, but as an IC they could be easily picked out by a power weapon and killed.
